Betrayal

This play by Nobel Prize winner Harold Pinter (1930-2008) explores the fragile architecture of love, memory, and time through the lens of betrayal, with the characters betraying not only each other, but also themselves. At first, in small ways, and then… it turns out there's no room left for sincerity in their lives—not even a game of squash can fit in, for sport demands honesty.

Two married couples have been closely associated for many years, and the core of their relationship is initially the friendship of Robert and Jerry. But one day, the balance shifts irreversibly and irreparably, and a love triangle emerges. From that moment on, the characters create endless labyrinths of omissions, tricks, and secrets; they create walls that ultimately separate them from each other; they create, unaware that in fact they destroy.

"Betrayal" is a fascinating journey from the present to the past; a piercing echo of the choices once made; a thoughtful and somewhat ironic exploration of the sharp edges of passion, affection, and deception.
