Žanis Lipke Memorial Museum
During WWII, in the yard at the end
of this tiny street, an underground
bunker was dug out. This is where
Žanis Lipke had made a hiding
place for people saved from the
Jewish ghetto. 8-12 people used
this 3x3 meter hole in the ground
as a shelter, often for long periods
of time. The German police never
found it and Lipke was never caught.
The Lipke Memorial has been built
next to his house.
