In the Name of Desire

The exhibition sheds light on Latvian authors of 20th century art history who boldly address the study of sexuality and the phenomenon of desire. In addition, contemporary artists participate in the project with works that have already been produced or specially created, interpreting the still uncomfortable subject matter in society through the medium of painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, installation and video art.

From the collection of the Latvian National Museum of Art, the exhibition highlights works by Vilnis Zābers, Rolands Kaņeps, Viktorija Pelše, Rasma Bruzīte, Arta Dumpe, Katrīna Neiburga, Biruta Baumane, Felicita Pauļuška, Hilda Vīka, Daiga Grantiņa, Amanda Ziemele, Sigismunds Vidbergs, Romualds Getaitis, Laimonis Blumbergs, Rūdolfs Alders, Ēvī Upeniece, Ella Leimane, Tālivalzs Gaumigs, Igors Vasiljevs, Gaida Grundbergs, Boris Bērziņš, Monika Bauer, Tan Le Kong, Arnis Balcus, Joseph Elgurt, Rūsiņš Rozīte, Kārlis Zemdega, Konstantīns Rončevskis, Voldemārs Trejs, Burkards Dzenis, Guntars Zvaigzne, Gustavs Šķilters, Daina Riņķe, Kristians Brekte and others. The exhibition also includes works of art from other institutions and private collections, such as those of Dace Džeriņa, Ingrīda Pičukāne, Vika Ekstas, Inga Melder, Rasa Jansone, Aleksandrs Apsītis, Ādolfs Zārdiņš, Vladimirs Glušenkovs, Gunārs Vīndedžs, Anna-Stīna Treumundas, Ivars Grāvlejs, Juris Dimiters, Visvaldis Ziediņš, Andris Grinbergs and Kaspars Zborovskis, Anna Dzērves, Baiba Vegere, Rūta Kreitsa, Brenda Jansons, Kārlis Vītols, Mark Raidper, Veronika (Vera) Šleivīte, Diana Tamane, Janus Sammas, Krista Zute, Mare Trallas, Adomas Dansevičius, Aija Poles, Andris Kaliņins, Sabine Verner, Franceska Kirke, Janina Sabalauskaitė.
