This production of Madama Butterfly offers the unique opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the LNO’s stunning 1925 production: the original set has been preserved, and the costumes were recreated after the original sketches. The opera tells the story of the Japanese geisha Cio-Cio-San, whose love for the American navy lieutenant Pinkerton eventually drives her to her death.
