Jazz Room Fest

April 24, Thursday 2025 19.00
Tape. Tone. Texture.

Riga is not a city where sound happens by accident. It emerges as a collage – between the tramline’s groan and a courtyard’s silence. Between impulse and decay. This is the soundscape explored by the Jazz Room Fest Electro Acoustic Series, presenting a one-time performance on April 24 — where reel-to-reel tape, modular synthesis, and the breath of a tenor saxophone meet.

This is not a collaboration. It is a spatial thought-form, materializing after years of sonic exploration. A singular, live, performative act.

Three figures. Three dimensions of sound

Mix Master Raitis – an architect of mood and sensation.
His approach is cyclical, textured, almost archaeological. Raitis does not use tape machines and vinyl for nostalgia – they become materials of memory, structure, and resonance. Like Basinski or Pierre Schaeffer, his work deals with the aesthetics of degradation, the poetry of hiss and repetition. Every click, every loop is a conscious compositional gesture.

Deniss Paškevičs aka TenKa – the visionary behind Jazz Room Fest, and one of Latvia’s most internationally acclaimed sound artists.
Tenor saxophone, flute, modular synthesizers – TenKa traverses the borderlands of acoustic and electronic, improvisational and composed. His work, including the vinyl solo “Sonic Geometry,” received a 4-star review from All About Jazz and has earned praise from jazz legends Jerry Bergonzi and David Liebman. Denis crafts sound like an architect – with taste, precision, and a deep sensitivity to atmosphere.

Jānis Ozoliņš – sound dramaturg, sculptor of silence.
Longtime recording engineer and sonic collaborator on many Riga Room Records productions, Jānis is less heard than felt. His work embodies a rare subtlety — where space, resonance, and stillness are as essential as signal. Every frequency breathes, every dynamic is intentional. He doesn’t mix sound — he lets it emerge.

A space that speaks in sound

Willa Teātris, a hidden gem in Riga’s heart, transforms into a listening chamber — where ambient tenor improvisations, tape textures, and modular structures converge.
One night only. One experience only. Live.
