Joe Zawinul, Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock - you could call them the jazz greats of their generation, especially on keyboards. The composers of such legendary works as Watermelo Man, Cantaloupe Island, Spain, My One And Only Love, Birdland and Teen Town, they were part of the American jazz renaissance of the 1970s and beyond. Herbie Hancock as the architect of the post-bop sound, Joe Zavinol as the creator of jazz fusion, and Chick Corea's compositions are already considered jazz standards. Together with special guests, the Latvian Radio Big Band will pay tribute to the work of these artists with a concert featuring vibraphonists Miķelis Dzenuška and Ēriks Mieze, as well as pianist Edgars Cīrulis, who are part of a bright new generation of Latvian jazz musicians. The concert programme will also feature new works by Miķelis Dzenuška, Ēriks Miežs and Edgars Cīrulis, composed especially for the Latvian Radio Big Band.
"American Jazz Evening" is a concert series initiated by the Latvian Radio Big Band, in which the audience is invited to look back with the Big Band at the "golden heritage" of the big band genre and the most important jazz personalities both in Latvia and worldwide.
