The Oyster Festival will take place in Riga for the 18th time. Exactly 10 years ago, in the fall of 2016, the Oyster Festival tradition began.
From a small event where a few thousand oysters were shucked, it has grown into one of the premier gastronomic events in the Baltics. To celebrate the festival’s anniversary this fall, the “Riga Oyster Cup,” a competition for professional oyster shuckers, will be held for the first time. Over the course of a single day, approximately 13,000 oysters are shucked and eaten at the festival, made possible by the participation of Europe’s best oyster shuckers in this event.
A total of 15 oyster shuckers will be working at the festival, offering guests the chance to sample 12 different types of oysters. The festival will feature various oyster-themed activities and competitions. Guests will be treated to an extensive entertainment program and a diverse selection of street food and grilled dishes. The event will be hosted by Renārs Purmalis, winner of the World Oyster Shucking Championship, and event host Ramona Rozmiša. As is customary every year, a mime and an illusionist will be among the festival’s performers, ensuring smiles on guests’ faces once again this year.
Younger guests can look forward to various activities in the children’s creative workshop—painting oyster shells, face painting, and other fun activities. DJ Garjānis and DJ ELLA will provide the musical entertainment. All restaurant and café terraces at Berga Bazaar will be open to festival guests. Additional standing tables will be set up on the event grounds. Admission to the event is free. The event is organized by the Riga City Council.
