Solo exhibition by Latvian contemporary artist Ieva Bondare

Ubuntu – a principle people in Africa aspire to live by. A quality that includes the essential human virtues; compassion and humanity.

The seven large format paintings were inspired and created based on seven of the brightest and most vivid color schemes found throughout the surroundings of South Africa; earth, houses, nature, ocean, mountains, animals, people and even the sun which sparkles differently there. The artist, Ieva Bondare, aspired to create pieces of art which portray her feelings as well as the realization that nature is the best artist from which to learn the most immaculate color compositions. The theme of sunshine, warmth and light can be felt throughout the collection. The sun in Africa has a special glow that brightens the colors in an extraordinary way making the world glow even on cloudy days. Ubuntu and the sunshine in South Africa radiate not only from nature but also from people with their smiles, warmth and joy of life. The artist wanted to bring all that home, carry all she had experienced in her heart for a while longer and share it with others through her art. By putting that glowing warmth on the canvas she has created an eternal memory to hold on to and share with others.

Riga born artist Ieva Bondare has earned her Master’s degree in painting at the prestigious Art Academy of Latvia and has also studied at the School of Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Mass. Her work is found in private collections throughout the U.S., Japan, Great Britain, Germany, Israel, Russia, Norway, Italy, Switzerland, Latvia and Estonia. Bondare’s first exhibition, entitled “Moments of Joy” was held in Washington, D.C. in 2011. Since then she has participated in 17 solo and countless group exhibitions.
