Contemporary Wednesdays at Tallinas Quarter

Starting from July 1, on Wednesdays, from 18:30 to 22:00, part of the Tallinas Street quarter will become a cultural place of contemporary art, music, dance and poetry. Visitors of "Contemporary Wednesdays" will have the opportunity to watch and listen to two activities and in the long break between them will also leisurely have a selection of snacks specially designed for "Contemporary Wednesdays", as well as view a contemporary art exhibition.

At the opening event of "Contemporary Wednesday" on July 1, those interested will have the opportunity to attend: a concert featuring musician Denis Pashkevich with the solo project 天 火 or "TENKA", which means "sky fire" from the Japanese language. This is the other side of Denis Pashkevich - the modular world. He is a multi-instrumentalist and composer who combines the sounds of jazz and contemporary rhythmic music in "TENKA" music. The performative exhibition, which will be an opportunity for all visitors of "Contemporary Wednesday", will be created by young, unaccustomed artists Aina Bikše and Lidija Zaneripa, who live in the quarter of Tallinas Street. Contemporary dance performance "Childhood Dream", performed by choreographer Agnese Bordjukova, which is a story about the formation of personality. It is an adult reflection on the connection with one's past, which shapes and determines the actions that are reflected in the present.

July 8, “Contemporary Wednesday” program will consist of: a concert with the musical association “KonBrio”, consisting of Aigars Raumanis (saxophone, electronics), Rūdolfs Pēteris Rubenis (saxophone, electronics), Miķelis Dzenuška (marimba, percussion, electronics) and Sigvards Dižais (percussion instruments) or art lovers who are not afraid to experiment on the basis of existing musical traditions. The poetry performance will be given by Raimonds Ķirķis, a poet from the heart and a representative of the new generation of writers, in collaboration with the writer Lauris Veips. The performative exhibition of Aina Bikše and Lidija Zaneripa will also continue this week.

The string quartet "SPONTE", consisting of Marta Spārniņa, the concertmaster of the Sinfonietta Rīga orchestra, Liene Neija - Kalniņa, the musician of the first violin group, Ivars Brīnums, the concertmaster of the viola group, and the cellist of the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra cellist Ēriks Kiršfelds will perform at the concert on July 15. Interactive improvisation of contemporary dance “Here and Now” performed by Katrīna Albuže's solo performance, the course of which will help to create the mood and challenges of the dancer. This week, for the last time, it will be possible to see the unique art exhibition of Aina Bikše and Lidija Zaneripa, created especially for "Contemporary Wednesdays".

The overall idea of the project is to create a wide and artistically high-quality program of events, which will take place until September 16, allowing contemporary culture lovers to choose, visit performances of various musicians, poets, dancers and view 3 large-scale art exhibitions.

The Tallinn Street block has been developing into an attractive place for arts and entertainment since 2017. In two summers, thanks to the wide range of culture and entertainment, it has become a favorite place for a diverse audience. As a result of such activities, we want to create a block of Tallinas Street as a high-quality environment, where young people can become cultural and intelligent adults, while other visitors can enjoy the good effects of a pleasant and creative environment.
