Sinfonietta Rīga. Baroque Christmas. Bach and Telemann

All the way from the decibels of Roskilde Festival to the expressive rhythms of the tango, from Tatar folk melodies to the allegories and golden radiance of Baroque music - the creative flight of violinist Alfia Bakieva crosses the boundaries of musical genres and cultures. She has polished her Baroque violin technique with Enrico Onofri - the founder and longtime concertmaster of the legendary ensemble Il Giardino Armonico. She performs as a soloist, concertmaster, and leader with the greats of early music - Jordi Savall and his Le Concert des Nations, as well as the splendid Italian ensemble Il Pomo d’Oro. In her first collaboration with the musicians of Sinfonietta Rīga chamber orchestra, Bakieva invites us to revel in Georg Philipp Telemann's zest for life and court dance patterns, to discover Baroque avant-gardist Jan Dismas Zelenka's surprisingly eccentric soundscapes, and, at last, to reach a catharsis in Johann Sebastian Bach's sublime grandeur.

Alfia Bakieva plays a Francesco Rugeri violin, built in 1680 in Cremona, Italy, lend to her by the Jumpstart Jr. Foundation.
