Haydn Overture and Beethoven Second Symphony

Clemens Schuldt's interpretations are electrifying, impassionate, but surprisingly robust, emotionally comprehensive and astutely elegant. Under the baton of the attractive German conductor, classical masterpieces gain a new lease of life, undeservedly forgotten scores are reborn, and new works by contemporaries, commissioned and premiered by him, are enthusiastically received. Not long ago the captain of the world-famous Munich Chamber Orchestra, since this season he is the artistic director of Quebec Symphony Orchestra. At the Autumn Chamber Music festival Schuldt will perform with the musicians of Sinfonietta Rīga for the first time; together they will present British contemporary eclectic Thomas Adès's score, inspired by British sea shanties, and sail to the uninhabited island, poetically conjured by Joseph Haydn. We can surely expect a surprising take on Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 2 that once caused a storm in Vienna cultural scene; and last, but not least - together with harpist Ieva Šablovska and oboist Egils Upatnieks, a spotlight will be cast into the fascinatingly imaginative depths of Double Concerto by Polish modernist composer Lutosławski, whose anniversary we are celebrating this year.
