Bach was Born in South America

May 16, Saturday 2026 19.00
The chamber orchestra Davinspiro Camerata will close its 2026 spring season with the concert “Bach Was Born in Latin America” on May 16 at 7:00 PM at House of the Black Heads.

The program will combine the music of Johann Sebastian Bach with tango, bossa nova, rumba, and other Latin American rhythms. The orchestra will perform together with renowned vibraphonist Andrei Pushkarev, a long-time collaborator of the ensemble. The concert follows a classical crossover style, blending Bach’s polyphonic masterpieces with Latin American musical genres.

The repertoire includes themes from *The Well-Tempered Clavier*, the *Inventions*, the *Goldberg Variations*, solo violin sonatas, and the concerto for two violins. Many of the arrangements and improvisations have been created by the soloists themselves. Pushkarev describes tango as a genre full of passion, tension, energy, and beauty. The idea for the project grew from his earlier composition “Bach Was Born in Buenos Aires,” originally written for vibraphone and violin. The orchestra already has a strong connection to tango music, having staged Maria de Buenos Aires in 2024, which later received the Latvian Grand Music Award for Production of the Year.

Pushkarev and violinist Daniils Bulajevs have collaborated before on the 2025 project “Beethoven in a New Sound,” featuring all ten Beethoven violin sonatas arranged for violin and string orchestra.

Pushkarev, born in Kyiv, began studying piano at the age of five and later joined Kremerata Baltica at age twenty-five. He has released acclaimed Bach-inspired albums including *Bach Vibrations* and *Bach Frequencies 60–90*. Bulajevs, only 22 years old, is one of Latvia’s most active professional violinists and founded Davinspiro Camerata in 2022. The orchestra is known for its youthful energy, virtuosity, and collaborations with internationally recognized musicians. Tickets
