BACH AND THE SILENCE OF CHRISTMAS

BACH AND THE SILENCE OF CHRISTMAS
Christmas time as a need for silence and minimalism, combining
the classical and the contemporary, while looking at how the madness and peace of Christmas looks from the outside in the 21st century.Minimalists will say "less is more". Maximalists will argue "more is more". And what about music? Philip Glass and Raivis Misjuns reveal that quality is more important than quantity - just a few notes that you can't live without make a wistful peace, an unforgettable melody or even an eternal movement. They strive to get it all, doing it colourfully and spectacularly.

Glass's Introduction, Einstein on the Beach, Etude and Arabesque in Memory will be intertwined by solos from four talented musicians, while Misjun's new work will bring together flutist Egija Sproģe, saxophonist Paulīna Piteņko, oboist Amanda Tauriņa and pianist Aleksandrs Kalējs in an enlightened sound painting. The concert culminates in a new work by Platon Buravitsky, which will give the audience a taste of the best of minimalism and maximalism.
