Riga International Ballet Festival

From March 12 to April 26, the 25th International Baltic Ballet Festival will take place in Latvia. Celebrating the festival's significant anniversary, this year's show variety will surprise viewers from both domestic and neighboring countries, as well as ballet stars from Cuba, the US, France and Finland.

March 13 this year, continuing the tradition, the festival will begin with an opening concert at Riga Central Railway Station near the Origo shopping center. The concert will showcase the mobile nature of the ballet artist - always on the way from show to show. Latvian artists from different genres of dance and music will participate. The opening concert venue was deliberately chosen to reach every passer-by in an intelligent dance art. To reach as many people as possible at the train station, the concert will take place in the afternoon, when people commute to work by train.

On March 16, the Latvian National Opera and Ballet (LNOB) will host the Gala Concert, the festival's highlight, as it features a ballet concert program featuring ballet stars and leading soloists from world-famous ballet theaters as well as laureates of international ballet competitions. This year's Gala will feature ballet excellence from the National Ballet of Cuba, the United States, Russia, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Riga Choreography High School.

“After all, the concert retains a tradition this time, incorporating both classical ballet schools and modern ballet novelties. The invited artists are leading soloists of national ballet and dance companies. This will be a great opportunity for viewers to see diverse and amazing dance performances in one place, ”emphasizes Lita Beiris, Director of the International Baltic Ballet Festival.

For the second time in a row, the unique American contemporary ballet troupe Complexions will visit Latvia on April 21 in Ventspils, April 23 in Riga and April 26 in Rezekne with the grand show "Star dust".

Complexions is known as one of the most unusual ballet companies in the world. For the audience, the striking, unique, vivid choreography and original music combined with the basic elements of classical ballet break all the standards adopted in dance. The show / show Star Dust is a tribute to legendary British rock musician David Bowie. This ballet wears his hit outfit and gives off a visual impression inspired by his unique personality. The show was produced by US choreography star Dwight Rhoden

As part of the festival, on April 7 in Preili, viewers will have a unique opportunity to see the "Finding now" performance by Jean Vilar of the Theater de Suresnes in France, which has attracted the interest of the ballet organizers to combine hip-hop dance and baroque music. In 2018, the show won the Grand Prize of French cultural journalist in the category "Dance"

Also during the anniversary year, various dance master classes, photo and art exhibitions and documentaries will be an integral part of the International Baltic Ballet Festival.
