Rockcafe continues blues concert sessions with great bluesmen from Finland Rockcafe in the old town of Riga continue to present the concerts by unusual and highly professional foreign blues artists. On 25th of March in “Sundays Blues Festival at Rockcafe” sessions in Mārstaļu street 2/4 will perform one of the best Finnish blues bands – “Dr. Helander & Third Ward”.
Dr. Helander is very well-known blues guitar player and vocalist in Finland and far abroad. In his band he plays together with two great musicians – so called Finland’s Blues minister, bassguitar player Esa Kuloniemi and drummer Leevi Leppanen. The band’s name “Third Ward” reflects on the part of Houston where legendary Lightnin’ Hopkins used to play. And the name reflects on these three Finnish guys as very experienced musicians and true authentic blues lovers also.
“Third Ward” already played together a lot – in concerts and in studios. Esa Kuloniemi and Leevi Leppanen participated in the making of Dr. Helander’s newest CD “Country Boy”. That’s an acoustic interpretation of the classic blues and there’s a “Grammy” award winner Charlie Musselwhite participating also. Even in acoustic album it is possible to hear “Third Ward’s” musical expression which goes out with double power in the concerts. These guys love to musically travel from electric Chicago blues to deepest acoustic elements of Mississippi Delta style. And Dr. Helander can vocalize in such an authentic way that even Americans are surprised after finding out that he is actually a Finnish guy. Are we mentioned already a stage charisma those guys aren’t lacking? Altogether means only one thing – there is no need to call twice when a blues fan hears about “Dr. Helander & Third Ward” coming to town!
Concert starts at 6 PM. Tickets – bilesuparadize.lv.
