Tālivaldis Ķeniņš would celebrate his centenary in 2019. An owner of great talent and dazzling professional skills; his work in composition, teaching, and music criticism has grand scope and superior quality. Ķeniņš’ achievements are a unique and incomparable merit in Latvian music, and this we must acknowledge in his anniversary year. The Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra is a reminder that Ķeniņš studied composition in France and that the ability to play with the sound ran in his blood. We will also hear a new work by the new generation’s potent composer Linda Leimane, in which she toys around with the mirror effect using the language of sound.
