The piano sonata as a genre is frequently called the studio of the great symphonic master Ludwig Van Beethoven. Beethoven wrote sonatas all his life; the first four were still written in the concluding years of the 18thcentury, while the last ones – five years before his death, strikingly revealing the composer’s style metamorphosis and the zeitgeist.
In preparation for the 250thanniversary of the composer’s birth the concert agency Latvijas Koncerti will give the audience a unique chance to hear all of his piano sonatas in a special series of concerts performed by well-known Latvian pianists. The second concert of the cycle will invite to a conversation about Beethoven’s music with the pianist Reinis Zariņš who is currently working in London. He’ll play the piano sonata No. 2, composed in Beethoven’s youth years and dedicated to Joseph Haydn, and the petite piano sonata No. 10, as well as piano sonata No. 21, also known as Aurora– one of the most beloved and technically challenging sonatas of the era.
